British Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have conducted a mission with French warplanes in a combined operation on an underground arms cache in Syrian territory used by the IS group, per a report from the UK Ministry of Defence.

The facility, identified by intelligence, was believed to be storing arms and explosives, the announcement noted, and was positioned in mountainous terrain just above Palmyra in the heart of Syria.

"The RAF jets employed laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to target a series of approach shafts leading to the depot... preliminary assessments suggest the objective was successfully hit," the ministry announced.

There was no indication of any harm to civilians in the attack on Saturday evening and all the aircraft made a safe return, the defence officials confirmed.

The British jets were assisted by a Voyager aerial refuelling aircraft.

The Islamic State group - referred to as ISIS - enforced extremist governance over parts of both Syria and Iraq before its territorial defeat in 2019.

"This operation demonstrates our UK leadership, and determination to stand shoulder to shoulder with our allies, to eliminate any revival of IS and their harmful and extremist ideologies in the area," the British Defence Secretary the minister said.

RAF aircraft have carried out surveillance missions over Syria to "prevent any efforts to regroup" of the group subsequent to its defeat at the climactic battle in Baghuz in the year 2019, the MoD reported.

"I extend gratitude to every member of British forces who took part in this operation for their professionalism and their courage," Healey commented. "They were among a great many UK service members deployed over the festive period. This mission, to eliminate militants who endanger our way of life, demonstrates how British military are ready to step up, continuously, ensuring Britain's security at home and powerful internationally."

During December, the United States armed forces conducted what it termed a "massive strike" on Daesh sites in Syria, after an attack killed two US servicemembers and a civilian interpreter in the Palmyra area.

The United Nations estimates IS still boasts an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 combatants in Iraq and Syria.
