Automobiles in German City Discovered Marked with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Police reported they were notified by a resident who found a automobile in Hanau smeared with red-colored substance

Roughly 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Vehicles, walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.

Law enforcement say they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.

The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Officers then found many other smeared cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Police report preliminary tests show the fluid was probably human blood.

"There is still no lead as to its source; investigators are not yet informed of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.

City officials said they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.

A senior official commented the attack made him speechless and required to be resolved rapidly.

"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine people by a assailant targeting residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
